Job Title: Delaware Leadership Project - Aspiring Principals Program (Full Time Position)

Job Description:
Innovative Schools is now accepting applications for its Delaware Leadership Project, a state-approved alternate route to principal certification. This rigorous 15-month residency program is designed to prepare aspiring principals to lead Delaware’s highest-need schools.

The Delaware Leadership Project is a highly selective program for aspiring principals with a commitment to closing the achievement gap. This is a full-time position and is offered cost-free to those accepted into the program. Delaware Leadership Project aspiring principals will be compensated with a stipend that is competitive with their current teaching salary. Program graduates must commit to working for three years after graduation as principal or assistant principal of a high-needs Delaware school.

Applicant Criteria:
-A master’s degree in any field from a regionally accredited college or university
-American teacher certification from any state
-A minimum of three years teaching experience at the level for which the graduate will serve as a principal or assistant principal
-An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher (preferred)
-A graduate school GPA of 3.0 or higher (required)
-Evidence that the candidate has been able to make strides in closing the achievement gap
-A willingness to commit in writing to work in high-need schools in Delaware public school system for three years upon graduation from the program
-The capacity to discuss and analyze projects that were unsuccessful
-A willingness to expose oneself as a public learner
-The ability to work in groups successfully
-A commitment to improving a particular skill or set of skills
-The ability to recognize school challenges typically involving a set of interconnected, underlying issues
-The commitment to closing the achievement gap
-Professional resilience
-Strong communication skills, both writing and oral
-The willingness/ability to be self-reflective
-Instructional knowledge and expertise
-Professional integrity

About the Delaware Leadership Project:

Delaware public schools need exceptional and motivated instructional leaders focused on student learning and achievement. School leaders are the key to a school’s overall performance and are central to achieving the kind of fundamental change that many schools require.

The Delaware Leadership Project, an initiative of Innovative Schools, is a state-approved alternative route to principal certification. The Delaware Leadership Project is designed to attract, develop, graduate, and support an elite cohort of outstanding school leaders each year. All graduates from the program will have the rich skill set and the reflexes to meet the complex challenge of leading high-needs schools.

The 15 months of preparation that Delaware Leadership Project aspiring principals receive is specifically tailored to the complex challenge of leading the state’s highest-need schools, a critical component of the Delaware Department of Education’s Race to the Top initiative.

The Delaware Leadership Project has four phases: a 5-week summer intensive of coursework, followed by a 10-month school-based residency working side-by-side with a mentor principal, and a planning summer that helps participants transition successfully into their school leadership roles. Graduates receive 2 years of ongoing coaching support in their new positions.

To progress to graduation, participants must meet clear school leadership performance standards in each phase of the program. Those who do not meet the standards will be asked to leave the program.

The program is currently accepting applications. The deadline to apply is January 24, 2013.
Only completed applications will be considered. Candidates will be notified by February 22, 2013 whether they are among those who have been selected to progress to the group interview phase.
