Position Summary: Maintains computing environment by identifying network requirements, installing upgrades; monitoring network performance. Relies on procedures and instructions as well as experience and judgment to identify, research, and resolve technical problems. Works utilizing independent and discretionary judgment to manage servers and critical applications. Acts as a leader and mentor to all technical team members.
Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughout, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
Assignment as administrator of specific corporate applications. Will be responsible for keeping the applications current, developing and presenting training on the applications, and monitoring the applications for uptime.
Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis; and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to technical difficulties with operating systems, hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
Timely update of incidents to communicate the plan, progress, and estimated resolution time.
Researches multiple incidents with common symptoms and identifies the root cause. Works to apply the resolution across any affected IT environments.
Serve as advanced help desk support for team members.
May assist distant team members in analyzing and advanced troubleshooting of complex problems utilizing remote support tools.
Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.
Analyzes systems statistics and recommends performance enhancements.
Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Researches, identifies, investigates, recommends, and implements new technologies (hardware and software) to improve VARtek’s value to our customers.
Designs, configures, monitors and optimizes system hardware for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable costs.
Ability to complete multiple simultaneous projects in a timely manner.
Create, review, and modify Knowledgebase articles and IT environment documentation.
Must maintain exemplary professional behavior when interacting with internal and external customers.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Information Technology. Qualified candidates will have 3 to 5+ years of experience designing, implementing and supporting diverse networking and server environments of various complexities. The candidate will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in a senior level help desk environment is helpful.
Qualified candidates will have experience with the following:
Routers – Routing protocols, WLAN configurations, and multiple sites.
Firewalls – Sonicwall, Cisco ASA, etc.
Switches – VLAN, Spanning Tree, PoE
VPN – Cisco, IPSEC, SSL, Sonicwall
Technologies: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS, LAN/WAN, Remote Support and Monitoring.
Software: Solarwinds, InstallShield, Cloud Backup Software, VMware, Ghost, MS Systems Management Server. SANs/NAS devices, System Center Configuration Manager 2007/2012 experience is a plus.
